Flux necklace #1.
Necklace, Copper and transparent enamel.
Exhibited at the Jewellers and Metalsmiths Group of Australia, Queensland Chapter “Flow” Exhibtion, October 2023.
Flux necklace #1 captures a transitional moment, a process underway. The solid enamel appears to be dripping and molten, the necklace seemingly frozen in time. The implication of change creates a sense of tension, uncertainty and unpredictability. Are we watching the piece’s creation or its deterioration? The shine of the enamel evokes a series of precious gems, despite their irregular forms. The necklace itself references the process of enamel application, which relies upon a solid-liquid state change, but is often carefully controlled.
